Pastor Transition

A New Season for the Ministry of LiveOak Church

Accepting Applications

LiveOak Church, a PCUSA congregation in Leander, Texas, seeks to call a new pastor. We are a small church in a fast-growing suburb of Austin, and we are looking for a compassionate and spiritually mature leader who is dedicated to following Jesus Christ, has five or more years of experience in pastoral work, and excels in the following areas: engaging preaching, promoting spiritual growth, a vision for outreach, strong interpersonal relationships, staff development, and a collaborative leadership style. Interested candidates can find more details about our church and the position by viewing our Ministry Information Form.  Personal referrals may be sent via CLC or directly by e-mail to the LiveOak Pastor Nominating Committee at liveoakpnc@gmail.com.

On January 17th, our founding pastor, Caz Minter, began a new call at a church in Memphis, TN, and LiveOak Church entered into a new season of ministry. While transition always comes with a bit of anxiety and a sense of loss, it also propels us forward with excitement and anticipation for what is to come. We know that God is at work in our church and He has an exciting new phase ahead for LiveOak.

Interim Pastor Hired

  • Over the last two weeks, the Session has been conducting interviews with our three interim candidates.  After prayerfully considering each candidate to determine which one would be the best fit for LiveOak during this time of transition, the decision was made to offer the position to Dr. Glen Thorpe. The Presbytery approved this decision, and an official offer for the Interim Pastor position was made to Glen and accepted.   Since we now have an Interim Pastor in place, we can then start forming a Pastor Nominating Committee.  We are excited to announce that we will be having a congregational meeting on 3/7 after the service to form the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC).  This committee will be composed of multiple members of the church to encompass all aspects of the LiveOak family.  This committee will be the ones responsible for reviewing pastoral applications, interviewing potential applicants, and ultimately deciding who the next permanent pastor of LiveOak will be. This can be a very time-consuming process, so those interested should also be available to dedicate a few hours a week to this committee.  If you have any questions on this process or are interested in serving in any way, please reach out to a member of the Session.

  • The Session and Staff continue to meet weekly to ensure the ongoing function of the church.  However, we cannot do it alone and need the church family's help now more than ever.  Please check out the volunteer opportunities below on ways you can help continue to grow LiveOak Church.

Update on Transition

  • The elders continue to meet weekly to ensure we have a smooth transition and that nothing slips through the cracks.

  • All of Caz and Camie’s daily activities have been identified and transitioned to a member of the church staff with assistance from an elder.

  • We are currently identifying candidates for an interim/transition pastor who will support us throughout the process of searching for our new full-time pastor.  In the meantime, we have guest preachers scheduled for Sunday services, and several retired pastors that have helped us in various ways over the last 10 years are assisting our elders during this time.  Upcoming guests:

    • 1/17/21 – Nancy Marroquin, a retired pastor who planted Dripping Springs Presbyterian Church

    • 1/24/21 – Glen Thorp, a retired pastor from California who moved to the local area this past summer

  • The search for a full-time pastor will be a thorough process that will begin with what is called a mission study that our Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) will conduct.  This study will look at where we have been, where we are and where we want to go in the future and the qualities that our next pastor should have to achieve those goals. If you are interested in participating, contact Beth Kropf or Eric Salzman so that you can be added to the list of individuals who will be considered.

What Happens Next?

LiveOak is a Presbyterian Church which means it is led by a group of Elders. The Elders, along with our incredible staff team will make sure the vital ministries of LiveOak continue running so that we can live out our mission as a church. For the next few months, we will enjoy guest pastors as well as some familiar faces taking on the preaching duties. Ali (children), Josh (youth), and Artha (worship) will make sure our programs run and will be able to point you in the right direction with any questions or needs you have. Our Elder team is meeting regularly, working on next steps for our leadership. They will be providing regular updates as they pray and discern what our new season of ministry will look like. Feel free to reach out to the Elders and Staff, they look forward to speaking with you.
